A major air hub for the state of Oregon, Portland International Airport serves a number of direct flights to various destinations in the United States as well as several international flights to Canada, Mexico, Japan and Germany. Handling more than 13 million passengers a year, the airport is one of the busiest in the region.
The airport boasts full facilities for passengers. Located on the ground level of the Baggage Reclaim area and on the Departures level are many ATMs and a currency exchange booth. Those wishing to use postal services can find appropriate facilities available at the Departures level.
Featuring a number of gift shops and stores, the airport will please shoppers with its wide range of goods for last-minute shopping. There are also duty-free outlets available, where travellers can kill time before boarding.
A variety of restaurants and cafés are scattered around the airport. Among the airport's additional facilities are a shoe shine service, a barber's, seated massage area and a children's play area.
The PDX Conference Centre features full facilities including meeting rooms, a secretarial service, telephones and fax machines. Concourse C and D are also equipped with office facilities, while Wi-Fi can be accessed throughout the airport.
Transportation at Portland International Airport
The cheapest and one of the most popular ways to get to the city centre from the airport is to use the TriMet Max light rail service that leaves from the southern end of the terminal. This service stops at many points downtown, including major hotels. Tickets for the TriMet Max can be purchased at the station.
Another economical option is to take a public bus, which run from the airport to downtown Portland regularly. The Gray Line Airport Express Bus and the TriMet bus service number 12 operate buses from the airport to the city throughout the day.
Those travelling with a big group can opt to use a private shuttle bus. There are many operators that provide shuttles from in front of the terminal building to preferred destinations. Taxis are also readily available at the Arrivals exit.
Parking at Portland International Airport
There are many parking options provided at the airport. A great number of spaces are available at the garage and surface car parks, featuring both short and long-term parking. All car parks are linked by either walkways or shuttle buses.
For those who wish to park their car for a long period, the economy parking area can cater up to 7,800 vehicles. The parking here is colour-coded red and blue to indicate different courtesy shuttles. Motorcycle parking is also available free-of-charge near Arrivals area.
